Critical History
The sculptures on the façade of the Parish Church of St Mary in Sladka gora were attributed to Joseph Straub by Sergej Vrišer in 1979.1 Valentina Pavlič recently confirmed the attribution with the help of the detailed photographs made during the restoration of the sculptures and the façade in 1900.2
On the top of the façade, there is a stone statue of Virgin Mary with Jesus and two kneeling angels on the sides. In the niche beneath, there is a statue of St Margaret with a little dragon beside her legs. On the sides above two volutes, there are two saints: St Bartholomew on the left and St Florian on the right.
Construction / Execution
The sculptures are made from stone.We can see a special attention to the details.
Comment
The exposed parts of the sculptures are seriously damaged, due to weather conditions.
