Critical History

The tabernacle for the high altar of the Bürgerspital church was created by Jakob Payer in 1775.1 The two candelabra-holding angels on top of it are attributable to the workshop of Philipp Jakob Straub. This is due to the pathetic gesture and head posture, but also due to the artful drapery of the clothing. The left angel is genuflecting with one hand led to the chest, the right one is standing in a pronounced contrapost with his hand stretched aside.

Construction / Execution

The sculptures are made of carved wood and worked in three dimensions.
