Critical History
We can attribute at least two angel heads from the high altar in the Parish Church of St Mary of the Assumption in Brezje to Joseph Straub. They seem to originate from the left side altar, which was attributed to Joseph Straub by Sergej Vrišer.1 The side altars were demolished shortly after 1965 and only the sculptures survived. Based on stylistic analysis and preserved photographs we can assume that they were removed from the left side altar during the renovation works in the church in 1965 and later fixed on the high altar.
