Critical History
Lippert lists the epitaph under no. 16.1 Volk dates it in 1758-59. There are 8 drawings by J. B. Straub for the epitaph for countess Törring as well as for a joint epitaph which was never realized. The drawings are archived in the StA Munich Archive Törring. The contract between count Törring and Straub was assigned the 18th September 1758.2
The sarcophague carved in grey marble is presented on a large console of grey stone. Above a large profiled console is standing the sarcophague. A white flat stone which is decorated by a profiled frameis used as background for the inscription. On top of the monument a crown floats above the two coats of arms of the two families Törring and Jettenbach. The frame is decorated with ornaments, flowers and attributes on the right side a flag, a hoe, a shovel, a garland with flowers, a scythe, on the right side an bow, a quiver with arrows, a large candle, a pitcher, a scull with a laurel wreth, on the sarcophague a curtain, a pillow and a cross. On the left side is standing a female sculpture which is expressing her sadness. The putto with butterflywings (symbol for soul) sitting on the right end of the sarcophague just hints with his right hand to the text. At the two upper edges of the frame Straub created unique rocailles with a wing.
