Critical History
The sculpture of St Joseph was attributed to Joseph Straub by Sergej Vrišer. It’s original position was beside the main road in Slivnica pri Mariboru, but it was knocked down in 1943.1 On September 7, 1978, the sculpture was transferred and installed on the stone wall in front of the parish church in Slivnica, where it remains to this day.2
Construction / Execution
The sculpture is made of sandstone and it is rather massive. It has smoothened backside.

Comment
The sculpture suffered significant damage already before 1978, when it was moved to the wall in front of the church: Jesus´s head was missing as well as the fingers of Joseph`s left hand. Today the whole Joseph’s hand is missing as well as the right hand of Jesus. The sculpture had bad repolychromy in the past, but it has been removed. The sculpture is badly damaged by weather influence because it has no roof above to protect it, even though there were several initiatives and discussions about providing it already in the past.3
