Construction / Execution
The right angel is kneeling on his left leg the other leg is pointing downwards. His right hand is lifted in a talking gesture, the left hand might have hold something may be a censer. For the left angel the function or better the position next to a tabernacle seems to be hard to imagine because of the position of his legs. He is lifting his arms in a gesture of admiration or honoration. The right wing of the right angel is kept near his body the left one is outstretched upwards. For the left angel the position is the same but vice versa.
The angels are carved by wood and have a polychrome painting layer. Volk says that the painting layer dates around 1900 and that there is another layer below.
Comment
The angels were restored in the workshop of the Bavarian National Museum in 2016/17: fixing of the polychromie, cleaning and retouching.
