Critical History

The epitaph is dated by a chronogram in 1746. It was erected for the count Gaudentius von Rechberg and his wife Maria Adelaide (née countess von Törring-Seefeld). 1 Lipperts listet the epitaph under no.20. 2 The epitaph is the first work of art that J. B. Straub executed for the Törring-Family. 3
The inscription is engraved in a dark stone which has a profiled decorationframe. Four flags (2 and 2)seem to be plugged on both sides of the central stone The drum, a fanfare, a halberd, a palmleaf and canons are representing the military efforts of the duke. On top of the stone the 2 coats of arm and a crown are presented. A shell for the holy water is installed in the middle of the lower stone.
