Critical History
The bozzetto was created by J. B. Straub for the tomb of his deceased wife Theresia who died in 1774. His nephew Franz Xaver Messerschmidt carved the bust in stone. The bust decorated the grave of Theresia Straub at the cemetery of the Church All Saints in Munich. The bozzetto is kept in the German National Museum in Nürnberg (invno. Pl. O 326). The bust by F. X. Messerschmidt is part of the exhibition in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich (Invno. R 8726). The head of the female person is covered by a shawl only showing the face. The head is standing on the book with seven seals. 1
